The concept of outsourcing certain processes is becoming increasingly popular in the construction industry. The reasons for outsourcing vary and may include reduction of business costs, redistribution of manpower, the centralisation of processes, and industry compliance assurances.<\/p>\n

One such process, which builders are likely to outsource, is quality assurance (QA). So, rather than a member of the construction firm carrying out quality assurance checks, the task is outsourced to an external company.<\/p>\n

Pros of Outsourcing QA<\/h2>\n

Outsourcing quality assurance can benefit both the builder and you, the homeowner. Provided that your builder has outsourced QA to an experienced, professional business, it will ensure that the finished component or product not only complies as a certifier would sign off on but that also the work that is a completed is done so to an acceptable standard and finish.<\/p>\n

Cons of Outsourcing QA<\/h2>\n

Not all outsourcing companies are equal. Outsourcing companies do not necessarily hire personnel who are suitably experienced in their client\u2019s industry. Instead, they take a minimalist approach to quality assurance, with focus on ticking all the right boxes and nothing more.<\/p>\n

A Second Opinion<\/h2>\n

For your own peace of mind, you can have additional inspections carried out by an independent building inspector. An inspector with qualifications and experience in the building industry can check that the materials used and finish meet the proper standards.<\/p>\n

An independent building inspector can provide a report for new builds or renovations to your home. If you are currently concerned with your builder<\/a>, which you suspect is due to poor workmanship, an independent building inspector can provide an unbiased report referencing observations made of the works as they are \u2013 this can help bring clarity to uncertainties and form a reasonable starting point for sensible resolution.<\/p>\n

Finally, you can also ask your builder to provide information on the company that conducts his quality assurance.
