Unfortunately this results in stale, stagnant, moist air that encourages mould to grow. Many buyers believe any smell of dampness is indicative of a leaky roof. Significantly, the most requested inspection item on pre-purchase inspections is to ‘check the roof for leaks’ – even when there is no visible sign of a problem.
Vendors should be advised in winter to open curtains and windows before a home open just to let some light in, and allow fresh air to circulate.
