Are you tired of paying an exorbitant price for brand name household cleaning products in South Australia? In most cases you shouldn’t have to shell out more than you can afford to keep your home clean. Your cupboards are likely to be harbouring secret solutions that you didn’t even know existed.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is actually one of the most versatile products found in most homes. It acts as a natural abrasive cleaner; removing stubborn dirt from dishes, ovens, bathrooms and carpets. Yes, by applying a thin layer of baking power to your carpet, you can get rid of a considerable amount of dirt. All you have to do is use a sweeper to lightly rub the baking powder into the carpet before following up with a vacuum.
Lemon
Do you know why lemon cleaners and disinfectants are so popular? Lemon is a natural disinfectant and is also an effective cleaner for grease, dirt and grime. There are several effective applications for using lemon as a cleaner. You can make up a disinfectant solution using water and lemon and by placing a container of the same solution in the oven and turning it on for 10-15 minutes you can remove stubborn dirt.
Vinegar
You can use a vinegar solution to clean almost anything, including plaque. The one downside of using this household product to clean mirrors, windows, bathroom appliances, tiles, and floors is the odour. However, you can mask the smell with a splash of lavender essential oil in the solution. The ratio for an effective vinegar solution is ideally 1 tsp of vinegar per 1 litre of water.
Salt
Most South Australian homes will have a ready supply of salt in the cupboard. Salt is a great disinfectant that is especially effective for cleaning sponges. You can wash out fridges, clean rugs, and use salt to help sanitize bathroom amenities. For cleaning fridges, countertops, and bathroom appliances, make up a salt solution with water. However, for cleaning rugs, simply sprinkle the solutions over the rug, leave for half an hour, and then vacuum.
Coke
When you are struggling to remove limescale or soap plague, it’s time for a Coke break. Coca Cola can be used to clean ovens, shower and bathroom amenities, tiles and toilets. For removing rust, Coke is a cheap and effective solution. Are your drains blocked with dirt and grease? Pour Coca Cola into the drain and leave over night.
Olive Oil
You can use olive oil as an effective replacement for furniture cleaning. For a polished furniture makeover, only a few drops of olive oil is required. Apply the olive oil to a cotton cloth to polish wood and leather furniture. You can also utilise olive oil when cleaning hardwood floors.
Mustard Powder
Do you have an issue with cleaning fat and greasy dishes? Just use mustard powder in a solution of 1 tsp of mustard powder per several litres of hot water. This solution will actively clean pans and other dishes that are covered in grease. Mustard powder is quick, effective and certainly won’t cost you a fortune.
Toothpaste
Most toothpastes are excellent stain removers and they aren’t abrasive, either. You can remove stains from carpets by applying a small amount of toothpaste and leaving for several minutes before rinsing off. If your furniture is marked by stubborn stains, a spot of toothpaste on a cloth is a highly effective cleaning product. When young children get a hold of pens and decide to draw on the walls, toothpaste can come to the rescue. It works great as a safe cleaner for painted surfaces.
